Penguin Secur-e-mail![]() The software runs on a MS Windows 9x/Me/NT/2K/XP system tray. It will enable a POP3 server on your computer, running on local ports 110, 111, 112 and 113 which will allow you to setup your e-mail client to pick up e-mail from up to 4 different POP3 servers. The software is very compact and easy to setup. In less than 2 minutes you can pick up your e-mail using a highly secure SSH connection.
How does it work? See the figure below. It is a typical scenario where a client computer connects directly to the port 110 on the mail server: ![]() In the next picture, there is the Penguin Secur-e-mail installed on the client computer. MS Outlook no longer communicates directly with the server. It connects locally instead, to the port 110 for example, where the Secur-e-mail listens to Outlook's connections. As soon as connection happens, Secur-e-mail creates an encrypted tunnel and alows MS Outlook to transfer authentication commands and e-mail through that tunnel. When finished, all connections are closed and Secur-e-mail on the client PC waits for another connection: ![]() Penguin Secur-e-mail uses a SSH compression so as the data transfer between your PC and the server is faster.
